Bio
Originally from Tulsa, Oklahoma, Samuel Dylan Ewing currently lives in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Sam has taught courses at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, PA, the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, MS, and Harvard University in Cambridge, MA. He previously served as the Horace W. Goldsmith Curatorial Fellow in Photography at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, where he curated the 2022 exhibition "Waiting for Tear Gas," among others. At the PMA, Ewing also inaugurated a comprehensive assessment of the museum's extensive holding of photographs by Carl Van Vechten, which document many of the major cultural and intellectual figures of the Harlem Renaissance. Sam has also worked as a Senior Researcher at the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation, where he conducted research in support of the artist’s forthcoming catalogue raisonné. Beyond his scholarly and curatorial activities, Sam is also a political organizer, one-time musician, and avid Star Trek: Deep Space Nine fan. Ewing received his PhD in the History of Art and Architecture from Harvard University in 2021.
